Penns Creek

An entire book has been written about the remarkable
beauty and abundant wild brown population of Penns Creek.
Pennsylvnia's longest limestone stream is a flyfishing
angler's dream with famous Green Drake hatches in late
May and early June. The stream also boasts mayflies
and caddis hatches throughout season, and stonefly nymph
imitations account for numerous catches. From Coburn
to Cherry Run you'll find the best fishing, with abundant
wild trout and scenic surroundings.

This
area includes an All Tackle Trophy Trout area from Elk
Creek to Poe Paddy, and a catch and release area from
there to just below Cherry Run. Both the upper and lower
stretches are stocked, while the middle is managed as
wild trout fishery.
Penns Creek is over 80 feet wide
in some areas with a good pool to riffle ratio. It flows
muddy for several days after heavy rains, and gets quite
warm in the midsummer heat, making fishing in July and
August hardly worthwhile. Nearby streams include Big Fishing Creek
and Spring Creek.
